Utrecht is the Netherlands’ fourth-largest city. It is also known as an international student city with bars and coffee shops. The city center is not very big, and you can easily do a walking day tour and visit a couple of the best coffee shops in Utrecht in only one day. Before you start your journey and stroll down the streets, ensure you have cash and ID.

Andersom

This coffee shop is near the historic cathedral Dom Tower. Usually, Andersom is open from 10 AM to 10 PM on Sunday, 11 PM on Monday and Wednesday, and until midnight on the remaining days. Expect it to be pricy but not that much with alright quality, mainly the hash. Many people report it as having an unfriendly personality. When I visited it in 2018, a man asked me to take my cap off. It didn’t feel amicable at the counter, but the atmosphere downstairs, where people were sitting, smoking, and conversing, was quite pleasant. Remember to bring cash and your ID.

Culture Boat

The coffee shop is located on a boat and has a cozy atmosphere. There are comfortable seating areas decorated with lovely plants. It’s open every day from 11 AM to 11 PM. Many visitors say it has very friendly staff and a unique atmosphere. Culture Boat has reasonable prices and a chillout ambiance, and you can watch a lovely sunset in the late afternoon. The place does not allow smoking tobacco or cigarettes inside.

Coffeeshop Freak

The next place on the list of best coffee shops in Utrecht is Coffeeshop Freak, located near the center. It has an inviting and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for couples’ evenings. It is open from 10 AM to 10 PM. There is no smoking area. The staff is generally friendly, but the security might not be, although they can help you with choosing the right strains, which they change around once a month. Their rolls tend to have too much tobacco.

Wietstok

Coffeeshop Wietstok lies near the Freak on the Wittevrouwenstraat and is open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, until 12 AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and until 10 PM on Sunday. The place is small and more like a takeaway. The rates are reasonable, but some visitors complained about the bad quality and no effects of the weed (especially the joints with tobacco).

Pleasure

Coffeeshop Pleasure lies between Wietstok and Freak. It is open daily from 10 AM to 12 AM. Its original name was Coffee Shop, Bordeaux Rood. Some time ago, they closed the smoking areas, and the shop now operates as a takeaway. The shop doesn’t offer edibles. Frequent visitors who used to know it before the change say it is not the same as it used to be.

The Grass

The coffee shop is located near Jumbo supermarket on Obrechstraat 1. It is open daily from 1 PM to 8 PM. You will find many locals there. It is more of a meeting place for great discussions after work. The staff is friendly and capable of providing advice if you ask. It is also known for offering a space cake.

Hi/Lo

The place lies next to the bus stop Van der Goesstraat and is open daily from 10 AM to 12 AM. Sometimes, when visiting Hi/Lo, you can hear jazz music. It offers a wide selection of hash and high-quality weed strains. The prices are okay; you ain’t going to break the bank there. People working there are friendly, including the cat. The interior is clean and pleasant, but you can’t smoke inside.

VIP Shop

VIP Coffeeshop is near the tourist attraction Doloris Anoma Maze Utrecht. It is open daily except Sunday from 1 PM to 9 PM. The prices are a bit higher than in other coffee shops. The selection of weed, hash, and edibles is wide, and the people working inside are polite and helpful.

Wiet Drive-thru Griffioen

The coffee shop is on Griffioenlaan 3 Street, south of IKEA and Holland Casino Utrecht. It is open daily from 10 AM to 11:30 PM. Visitors recommend it for good service, selection, and quality.

Coffeeshop de Wolf

The place is on the west side of the street, Laan van Nieuw Guinea, and is open daily from 11 AM to 12 AM. The selection is limited to only six items, but the atmosphere is generally friendly.
