Sunset Shots Are Cliché But These 6 Paphos Spots Are Worth It
Sunset photos might be a bit clichéd, and every traveler’s camera roll has at least a dozen. But you can use this time of the day for either practicing your photography skills (for example, prolonged exposure or composition), or you might incorporate specific genius loci and reflect upon the current state of your surroundings. The guide covers some of the best sunset spots in Paphos, Cyprus – including beaches and coastal walks to hilltop bars.
The Edro III Shipwreck
The shipwreck is located north of Paphus near the village Peyia and Sea Caves Payia Paphos. The nearest point where you can get by public transport from Paphos is Coral Bay (bus 615 or 616), and then walk for around 50 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for 10 EUR each way.
There is one nearby café, Oniro By The Sea, which is currently temporarily closed (as of May 2024). It is also possible to swim around it or dive. Sometimes you may also encounter a local DJ playing at the sunset, too.
The shipwreck can create a dramatic element for your pictures with all the waves crashing around it. The disaster occurred in 2011 during a severe storm at sea. The cargo ship was heading towards Rhodes in Greece from Limassol.
Coastal Broadwalk
If you have a lot of free time, you can opt for a longer walk with uninterrupted sea views on the shore. You can start your work in the harbor and continue to the archeological site of the Tombs of the Kings and Vrexi Beach. There are many seating options, and the walk is suitable for children and older adults alike.
Lighthouse Beach
The beach is just a short walk from the shopping mall, Kings Avenue, and it offers ideal panoramic views of the horizon. The nearby lighthouse can add a scenic landmark to your photos. Compared to other beaches, the place is more quiet. While the waters may not be ideal for swimming, the spot with the promenade, which is part of the coastal boardwalk, is perfect for taking in the sunset views. There is a great café bar where you can enjoy freshly squeezed orange juice or a beer.
Muse Bar
Another spot on the list of the best sunset spots in Paphos, Cyprus, is the Muse Bar, located on a hilltop near the Agios Theodoros Cathedral. It offers panoramic city and sea views, helping you achieve an aerial look in your photos. It is also popular among locals, and you can have a cocktail or dinner in the bar as well.
Sea You Beach Bar
The bar is now temporarily closed, but you can take a walk along the coast nearby. It lies near Potima Beach and a Kissonerga Heart Foto point, and you can take a stroll down the shore and follow the Kissonerga Beach Walk. Kissonerga is the nearest village, and you can also visit it by taking bus 615 from Paphos, which also stops near Potima Beach.
Paphos Harbour and Castle
The last spot that deserves to be added to the best sunset spots in Paphos, Cyprus is for those who want to stay in the town in the harbor area. You can get the iconic view of the medieval castle and the anchored boats glowing under the sunset. The best shot would probably be from the far end of the harbor, looking back at the castle.
The list of these spots is not definitive; you can conduct your field exploration. If you want to get more panoramic views, including some city or village areas, it is suitable to find a local restaurant or spot on a hill. The coastal region, from the harbor to the Sea Caves in Peyia, is quite long, nearly 20 kilometers. If you have your car, you can visit different spots during the sunset hour. Otherwise, it is ideal to choose one specific point and arrive 30 to 60 minutes before sunset.
