16 Top Remote travel jobs
As the title suggests this article will give you a list of the most suitable (not only) remote travel jobs. I will start it with the ones where you can make traveling the main subject. Then continue with the ones where you can travel but might not be that much out there experiencing foreign soil. I’m not sure if the term job is the best one since many of the next activities are usually freelance or self-employed ways.
Blogger and photographer
I decided to combine this into one because, in today’s world, it is not that easy to just write long articles. People will need to look somewhere else constantly to check how the place looks like when compared to the image they have made in their heads while reading. On the other hand, it is nice to have another way how to attract people to your photography services too. Alternatively, you can create an affiliate web dedicated to travel-related topics. The best photography fields suitable for travel are landscape, street, portrait, wedding, and event photography.
Videographer, YouTuber
This one is an obvious go on the remote travel jobs list and probably a very commonly chosen path for many people who want to make traveling their main job. If you prefer talking to writing and you do not mind to be stared at in public while talking to your camera, this path might be for you. One of the disadvantages it can cause you later is when you make it a personal brand and you get burnt out. Are you going to close the business because you can not deliver such work to somebody else? It is more easy to sell a blog than a YouTube channel with our face attached to it. Alternatively, you can create a channel that would host different travelers so people will not get used to seeing only one face.
AI Influencer, AI content creator
Late 2023 and early 2024 were the times when many first AI social media influencers started to appear. Some of them are quite successful and follow the same strategies as the real ones. Except if you want one you either learn to use AI tools or find somebody to do it for you.
Travel guide, agent
The old-fashioned one is when you usually work for some travel agency and travel places and guide usually bigger groups of people. You can also do it as a freelancer if you have deep knowledge of certain areas. Also, you can offer services like building travel itineraries or translation or interpreting.
Journalist
You can establish your own media outlet or work independently as a foreign correspondent for an established one. Compared to blogging you will need to be prone to make interviews with locals, experts, and other travelers to gather insights and stories. Besides writing, research and investigative abilities, and adhering to journalistic ethics and standards is a must. Also, photography and videography might play a big role in communicating and reaching broader audiences.
Fly attendant
I’m not sure how much free time flight attendants have between flights but this kind of profession can lead you to travel the world very easily.
Modeling
Young people with the right measures can try this career path. If chosen by a modeling agency, you can live in other countries. Usually sharing house with other models. Mostly Japan, Paris in France, Milano in Italy, New York, London, South Korea, Australia, Brazil, and many others.
Artist, Writer
Being an artist who chooses his or her art subject can be an easy way that open access to travel. Some artists engage more in traveling. For example musicians, DJs, visual artists (including tattoo artists), dancers, actors and actresses, circus performers, or directors.
Graphic, web design, developer
Everyone either with a love for the visual elements or programming who enjoys spending many hours with computers can be inclined to try some of these remote travel jobs. It also comes with some perks, but also disadvantages like finding new clients, or dealing with the demands they might have.
SEO, Social media managers
On the other hand, people who prefer to deal more with budgeting, analysis, and numbers can try the online marketing field open for SEO specialists, PPC experts, or social media marketers.
Teaching languages
Teaching can be done online or in the country of your choice. There are also some volunteering teaching positions around the world – many in Africa. Usually, you will teach your native language. In most cases the language that is often desired is English. If you are not a native speaker and you do not have any finished university in an English major, you have several certification options available. Such as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). However, it’s advantageous to be proficient in multiple foreign languages. For instance, during my time as an English major, my Dutch teacher at university expressed concerns about our prospects with only English proficiency. This underscores the value of being multilingual in today’s globalized world.
Psychotherapist, Dating coach
These are similar to teaching. While offering psychotherapy or philosophical counseling can be done only with proper university studies, dating advice probably not. But it is always good to have some relevant knowledge and skills to prove your credibility. There may now be a significant opportunity for dating coaches specializing in serving the LGBT community. Currently, there is a notable lack of resources tailored to young LGBT individuals seeking guidance on dating.
Loyalty tester
A loyalty tester is an individual who employs online pseudonyms or fake profiles to assess the fidelity of someone’s partner. This role seamlessly intersects with the career paths mentioned earlier, such as that of a dating coach or even an intelligence agent.
Archeologist
Being an archeologist allows you to visit many inaccessible locations. In most cases, you will need to study archeology at university but there are opportunities for volunteers in this field as well. You can work alongside the professionals and the activities can include restoration work, excavation trips, writing reports, or drawing maps.
International Aid-worker
Humanitarian professional who supports and assists communities around the world. Part of it is traveling to disaster-affected places that are in humanitarian crises. It is preferred to have some basis and degree in international relations, social sciences, or related fields.
Cruise ship or hotel entertainer
If you are an artist or have talent in something like magic, dance, theater, comedy, or even photography, you can try to become part of a cruise ship crew. In combination with adaptability, strong interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to entertain and engage audiences you can become someone who provides entertainment onboard for passengers. This same applies to such roles at hotels.
Traveling nurse or medical professional
You will need either a medical degree or a license to practice medicine, even only if you want to be a nurse. Most of the time you will work on short-term assignments at healthcare facilities or sometimes at home with patients, or provide care in underserved areas.
There are definitely more remote travel jobs out there. The above paragraphs are just some outlines of working paths that I’m more familiar with. Maybe they will help some of the readers to make decisions or add some perspective when deciding.
